DESCRIPTION
Antique 20th Century unique and exceptional Italian Art Nouveau Solid Silver and Enamel smoking set, comprising of cigarette case, vesta case and pencil, each piece is beautifully enamelled with a shooting related subject in the Art Nouveau Style (or "Stile Liberty", as it was named in Italy).
The cigarette case represents a young lady holding a target and a smoking rifle, together with the logo of "TIRO FEDERAL ARGENTINO BUENOS AIRES" and the "Antiguo Tiro Federal" building on the background. The building was designed by the Italian architect and nobleman Carlo Morra and it doesn't exist anymore (please follow this link for more information).
This is a unique set, commissioned for the "Concurso Internacional 1903", the VII IISSF World Shooting Championships held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1903 (please follow this link). The set probably belonged to one of the Italian shooters, possibly Attilio Conti or Cesare Valerio, who won medals that year, or it was commissioned directly by the Tiro Federal Argentino Association.
The enamel is in great condition and exceptionally well painted, lovely Art Nouveau design.
The TFABA is still active and has a dedicated museum in which the trophies are shown (please follow this link to the Museum's website).
Each piece is original and fully Hallmarked Italian silver (800 standard), Milan, year before 1903, Maker's mark for Augusto Gerosa, silversmith and enamellist specialyzing in Liberty or Art Nouveau items.
