DESCRIPTION

Antique early-20th Century Burmese, Myanmar solid silver four piece tea set on tray, comprising a teapot, sugar bowl, cream jug and tea caddy, each piece is highly-decorative, chased and repoussed with various scenes from Burmese mythology on finely tooled ground. Each piece is applied with grotesque cast figural handles and teapot spout terminates with a mythical naga head, covers are surmounted by a peacock. 

The hand-crafted repousse' tray, is of large size and heavy gauge, the border repousse' decorated in relief with scenes from the Burmese mythology amongst scrolling foliage, the centre is engraved depicting a dancing couple. As often the case for Burmese silver the tea set is unmarked, but has been acid tested to show 900 grade silver, the base of the teapot is engraved with a makers mark - perching bird.
