19th Century Victorian Silver "Armada" pattern jug, with scroll handle, the hinged lid has an ornate pinecone finial and opens squeezing the handle trigger, baluster body, domed circular foot, the body is profusely decorated in relief with embossed flowers, foliage and scrolls on a matted ground. Hallmarked English silver (925), London, year 1891 (Q), Maker's mark E&CoLd for Elkington & Co Ltd.

DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century rare Victorian Solid Silver "Armada" pattern jug, with scroll handle, the hinged lid has an ornate pinecone finial and opens squeezing the handle trigger, baluster body, domed circular foot, the body is profusely decorated in relief with embossed flowers, foliage and scrolls on a matted ground. The body also features two vacant cartouches flanked by cast winged mermaid and mermen, and a cast leopard's head at belly front.

Both body and lid are fully Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1891 (Q), Maker's mark E&CoLd (Elkington & Co Ltd).
