DESCRIPTION

A superb pair of leather Chesterfield sofas retailed by Laura Ashley around the latter part of the 20th century. One of the most elegant models with button down seating, this is a fashionable item of furniture capable of uplifting the interior space of any contemporary or traditional home, the classic colour combining refined elegance and taste. These particular sofas have a lovely wear to them, the tan colour with patination throughout just adds to their charm.

Laura Ashley was a Welsh fashion designer and businesswoman. She originally made furnishing materials in the 1950s, expanding the business into clothing design and manufacture in the 1960s. The Laura Ashley style is characterised by Romantic designs – often with a 19th-century rural feel – and the use of natural fabrics. The brand continued to grow even after her death in 1985 and remains one of the most iconic British brands to this day.

Chesterfield sofas describe a deep buttoned sofa, usually made from leather, where the arms and back of the same height. The first Chesterfield, with its distinctive deep buttoned, quilted leather upholstery and lower seat base, was commissioned by Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield (1694–1773). This historic item of furniture has adorned our homes for centuries now, yet they are still able to elevate any interior and are as popular today as they have ever been.

CONDITION

In Good Condition - Some wear consistent with normal use. Some darkening in areas where the sofas were used most. Tiny repair to one of the armrest, possibly as a result of a cigarette burn. Small tear to the felt lining on the underside of one of the sofas. Please refer to photographs. N.B.
