DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century exceptionally rare Indian Colonial solid silver twin handles bowl, on a round spreading foot and a wavy rim to the top. The detailed engraving is particularly crisp and ornate.

The base bearing the marks O.M of Oomersi Mawji, the most celebrated Indian silversmith of all time. Oomersi Mawji is mostly known for his silver tableware and tea-ware, and is very rare to find silver centerpieces by him. Oomersi Mawji was appointed Royal Silversmith for the Maharajah of Kutch and producing silverware for a wide elite of European and British clientele. The piece dates to the 1880's.
