UNUSUAL 20thC FRENCH ILLUMINATING COFFEE TABLE, HENRI FERNANDEZ c.1970
A stunning and striking coffee table or side table in the form of a cobra, sculpted in a figure of eight with its tail meeting its head, possibly with the intention of recreating an ouroboros, an ancient symbol of a snake or serpent eating its own tail, variously signifying infinity and the cycle of birth and death.. Hand made by the famous designer of the 1970s Henri Fernandez, this item is made largely from quality brass, copper, and stained brass slices, soldered together to form a snake with a light in its mouth.
