A rare Black Forest occasional table made in the Swiss-German borders around the latter part of the 19th century. The wood structure with carved deer feet is flanked by a series of deer antlers arranged in a symmetrical way to give the table a functional use whilst being extremely decorative. Its elegant proportions allow it to be used as a small dining table or simply as a striking side table. It is a lovely item of furniture which would look fantastic in any hunting lodge or alpine chalet but equally appealing to anyone who loves a home full of curiosities and oddities which grab attention.

Antlers were already used in the late 15th century as a source material for clothes hooks, storage racks and chandeliers, the so-called "lusterweibchen". However furniture made by antlers has been invented in the 19th century and can therefore be assigned to the Biedermeier period. They were exclusively made for the European nobility to decorate their hunting castles and various manors. Antique furniture of this kind is very rare and much sought after, with somewhat of a revival over the past decade or so with many magazines showing interiors decorated with such items.
