A stunning 19th Century bronze sculpture. Prosper Lecourtier (1851-1924) crafted this bronze sculpture depicting a stag and a doe in a floral forest. At the feet of the animals are a selection of flowers and floral leaves. The base of the bronze is signed "LECOURTIER". 
 
Prosper Lecourtier was a highly esteemed French sculptor renowned for his masterful depictions of animals. A pupil of Coutan and the celebrated animalier sculptor Frémiet, Lecourtier received several medals exhibiting at the Salon during the latter part of the 19th Century, and was awarded a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900. Born in France in the mid-19th century, Lecourtier displayed a remarkable talent for capturing the essence and movement of wildlife in his sculptures. He gained widespread recognition for his exquisite bronze works, characterised by their lifelike detail and dynamic compositions. Lecourtier's sculptures often featured majestic creatures such as deer, horses, and birds, imbued with a sense of vitality and grace. His artistic legacy resonates through his numerous acclaimed pieces, which continue to captivate art enthusiasts around the world.
