19th Century pair of Victorian Silver flagons / beer jugs, each baluster body of unusual squashed form, embossed in very high-relief with flowers, leaves and scrolls, the other side depicting a Bacchanalia representing young fauns carrying a drunk Bacchus on the back of a donkey, the spout is cast as a mask, one cartouche bears a Royal Yacht Club's crest. Hallmarked English silver (925), London, year 1838 (C), Maker's mark SC for Sebastian Crespel II.

DESCRIPTION

Antique 19th Century pair of early-Victorian extremely large and magnificent Solid Silver flagons / beer jugs, each baluster body of unusual squashed form, embossed in very high-relief with flowers, leaves and scrolls, the other side depicting a Bacchanalia representing young fauns carrying a drunk Bacchus on the back of a donkey, the spout is cast as a mask, one cartouche bears a Royal Yacht Club's crest (partially rubbed).

This is an impressive and magnificent pair, exceptionally large (each 35cm tall) and heavy (5610 grams of solid silver), very crisp decoration.

Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1838 (C), Maker's mark SC (Sebastian Crespel II).
