ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

At the time of the creation of the Atollo lamp, Italian design was essentially represented by Vico Magistretti and Castiglioni, the aim was to give a classy connotation to the design. In the 70s the designer dedicated himself in particular to the design of furniture and objects, so in 1977 he created the "Atollo" lamp commissioned by the Italian company Oluce, of which he was art director and main designer.

Atollo has become the archetype of the table lamp, completely revolutionising the way of imagining the classic abat-jour. It was, in fact, one of the most important and recognized projects by Oluce, winner of the Compasso d'Oro Award in the 1979 edition. The lamp has been placed in various permanent collections of design and decorative arts museums and the Atollo lamp is still considered a valuable piece of interior design.

This stunning black example dates from the earliest production run and is the largest of the three sizes available at the time, the Atoll 233 to give it its technical name. It is important to stress that the lamp is not of recent production which gives it a special allure seeing as it was from the first production run and still retains its original working dimmer switch. A rare chance to own an original, period Atollo lamp, not to be confused with the recent productions or copies mostly on the market today.

CONDITION

There is a small scratch on the shade. The scratch is to the back of the lamp and therefore the part usually facing the wall. Otherwise in excellent vintage condition, please refer to photographs.
