DESCRIPTION

A stunning floor lamp by Gaetano Sciolari made by Stilnovo of Italy around the 1960s. Sciolari was at the forefront of design in that period. It is hard to overstate how futuristic his designs looked at the time and how influential his designs were. To this day his designs are copied and mimicked in modern lighting solutions and this lamp, called the Model 4013 hardly shows its age. Made in the 1960s, it is as beautiful as it is functional. Its simplistic and futuristic design sits so well in any modern interior as it would equally in any mid-century design interior. It has two light switches to the centre of the stand, one to tun on one bulb for “mood lighting”, the other to turn on the remaining six bulbs for full lighting capable of giving light to a whole room. The bowl shaped diffuser in frosted and etched glass sits on a triform tubular brass stand over a circular white marble base. It is a design classic already and a fabulous investment.

Angelo Gaetano Sciolari was the owner of Sciolari Lighting and designer for the Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950s. It was while working for Stilnovo that Sciolari created his most recognisable and celebrated designs, a series of multi-light chandeliers fashioned with both glossy and matte metal, conjuring up futuristic visions of the dawning space age. Throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s his designs were in high demand, during which his designs appeared prominently in popular television and films due to their luxurious and futuristic appearance.
