ANTIQUE 19thC GERMAN THREE-COLOUR 18k GOLD SNUFF BOX, HANAU c.1820
Antique early 19th Century German three-coloured 18k gold snuff box, of rectangular shape with elegantly rounded corners, featuring a lid that is intricately adorned with a chased flowerhead centered within a lozenge-shaped frame, surrounded by a finely detailed chased lemon gold wreath.
Flanking this central motif are two caryatids, rendered in quatre couleurs, each holding a trumpet in one hand and raising a chased banner above their heads in the other, all set against a textured sablé background. The design is complemented by a slender rose gold thumbpiece, and the sides and base are exquisitely engine-turned. Despite its intricate craftsmanship, the piece appears to be unmarked.
