Antique late 18th Century French 18k gold snuff box. During the reign of Louis XVI, French artisans demonstrated their unparalleled skill in crafting magnificent gold boxes, symbols of prestige and affluence often exchanged as gifts among the aristocracy. The surface is embellished with intricate engine-turned decoration and applied with an ornamental enamel plaque to the lid, surrouneded by old cut diamonds and an ornate thumbpiece.
