ANTIQUE 19thC RARE GERMAN SOLID SILVER PAIR OF MONUMENTAL FIGURAL EWERS c.1890
19th Century German pair of silver monumental wine ewers, both heavily cast in the style of Renaissance mythological grotesque birds with eagle heads, the bodies are embossed with mythological scenes, heraldic motifs and equestrian battle scenes. Resting on a large spread plumage and ball-shaped claw feet.
Both bases are Hallmarked German Hanau pseudo-marks, acid tested shows a 800+ standard, the makers mark is unknown to me, but judging by the style the piece dates to the late 19th Century (1880-1900), also struck with the post-1953 Dutch first standard import mark.
