DESCRIPTION
Antique 19th Century German Solid Silver wall charger / sideboard dish, good size and impressive weight, gilt, of oval form in the style of the 16th / 17th Century silver sideboard dishes / chargers, the border embossed with scrolling foliage, fruits and game birds, in the style of the early pieces, the centre is finely chased and applied with a magnificent hunting scene, probably depicting the Emperor Maximilian horseback and his dogs attacking a stag.
The chasing and applied cast decoration is very fine, the dish bearing pseudo-marks typical of German Hanau silver, acid tested shows a 800+ silver standard, Maker's mark used by Neresheimer & Sohne, it dates to 1880-1900.
