DESCRIPTION
Antique late-19th Century German impressive silver-gilt desk stand, the shaped oval base on three plain stud feet and two winged demi-female figure feet, with foliage and rosette borders. This exceptional inkstand is fitted with a twist bell, two inkpots with hinged domed covers and lion finials, a pen rest and two thermometers, the central plinth surmounted by the figure of Nike (the goddess of victory), flanked by two female attendants on scroll topped plinths. Nike is the daughter of the Titan Pallas and the goddess Styx, and the sister of Kratos (Strength), Bia (Force), and Zelus (Zeal), Her grandfather is Poseidon. The front mounted with an elaborate cartouche with initials and flanked by two cherubs. Hallmarked German silver (900 standard), Maker's mark M for Gustav Memmert, Berlin, active 1890-1930.
CONDITION
In Great Condition - No Damage, just general wear, thermometers no longer in use.
