19th Century German Silver & glass large, extremely decorative Wine Claret jug, the glass body is beautifully hobnail-cut and each side is centered with a star, mounted with a silver collar profusely chased in a neo-Renaissance style, depicting foliate scrolls, a beautifully modelled head in high-relief, the hinged lid is surmounted by a figural finial modelled lide a Cherub holding a shield, engraved "2 August 1856-1881". Hallmarked German silver (800), "M".

Antique 19th Century German Solid Silver & glass large, extremely decorative Wine Claret jug, the glass body is beautifully hobnail-cut and each side is centered with a star, mounted with a silver collar profusely chased in a neo-Renaissance style, depicting foliate scrolls, a beautifully modelled head in high-relief, the hinged lid is surmounted by a figural finial modelled lide a Cherub holding a shield, engraved "2 August 1856-1881". The lid is Hallmarked German silver (800 standard), "M", the body appears to be unmarked but acid tested shows a 800+ silver standard. The jug is original and in excellent condition, it dates to the 1880's.
