Description
Antique 19th Century German Solid Silver exceptionally large and magnificent trophy cup and cover on stand, richly parcel gilt, massive size (64 centimeters tall) and very decorative, profusely chased with scrolling leaves and masks in the Renaissance style, matching cover in the same style terminating with a large and stunning cast finial modelled as a winged figure, the cup rests on a large matching stand with figural feet modelled as lion's heads.
The front bears a Chinese memorial inscription "Hong Kong Jockey Club, Meeting 1887, Foochow Cup, Won by Mistletoe". The Hong Kong Jockey Club is an important institution founded in 1884 and still active, please follow this link.
Both the cup and the stand are Hallmarked German silver (800 Standard), Heilbronn, year 1880's, Maker's mark for Bruckmann & Sohne, very imporntant German manufacturer.
