A SET OF THREE BRASS NESTING TABLES, BY MAISON JANSEN, MADE IN FRANCE c.1970

Sold

A lovely set of “nest“ tables by Maison Jansen, made in France around the 1970s. Nest tables are a set of three or more tables which are graduated in such a way that they fit neatly within each other. They present a perfect space-saving solution whilst doubling up as useful occasional tables and/or side-tables. Maison Jansen came up with their own take on the nest tables, offering a very elegant set of three tables made out of a faux bamboo frame entirely made out of brass, all on castors, topped with glass. They are a truly elegant solution for any interior looking to enrich the room with a little vintage class of the finest quality. Although these tables do show a little rusting to the faux bamboo, they still ooze quality and if anything they add a lovely retro feel.

Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Throughout the firm's history, it employed a traditional style drawing upon European design, but influence of contemporary trends including the Vienna Secession, Modernism, and Art Deco has also appeared in Jansen interiors and in much of the custom furniture the firm produced between 1920 and 1950. Under Boudin's leadership, Maison Jansen provided services to the royal families of Belgium, Iran, and Serbia as well as Elsie de Wolfe and Lady Olive Baillie’s Leeds Castle in Kent, England. The firm's most published work was a project by Boudin and Paul Manno, the head of Jansen's New York office, for the U.S. White House during the administration of John F Kennedy. At the same time, Jansen completed the interior of the motor yacht Chambel IV, now renamed Northwind II. Northwind II is one of the few remaining complete Jansen commissions.
