19th Century Victorian Silver Novelty figural inkwells, each extremely heavy and realistically modelled as a cockerel standing on a sheaf of twigs, the hinged heads opening to reveal gilded interiors and on circular wooden bases. Hallmarked English silver (925), London, year 1864 (i), Maker's mark "ISH" with crown above, for John Samuel Hunt.

Antique 19th Century pair of impressive and exceptionally rare Victorian Solid Silver Novelty figural inkwells, each extremely heavy and realistically modelled as a cockerel standing on a sheaf of twigs, the hinged heads opening to reveal gilded interiors and on circular wooden bases. The pair of novelty inkwells are extremely rare, probably unique pieces commissioned for heraldic reasons.
Each part is Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1864 (i), Maker's mark "ISH" with crown above, for John Samuel Hunt, Royal silversmith and jeweller to Queen Victoria, with Mortimer first and Roskell after successor to Paul Storr in producing the highest quality silver (please follow this link).
