ANTIQUE 19THC VICTORIAN SOLID SILVER 7PS TENIERS TEA SET, GEORGE FOX C.1888-1900
19th Century Victorian Silver magnificent and impressive 7 piece tea set, comprising of tea kettle on stand, teapot, sugar bowl, a milk jug, smaller cream jug, a waste bowl and sugar tongs. All parts are richly gilt, each with pear-form body with chased and applied rustic scenes of peasants merry-making, in the style of the Dutch painter David Teniers, some of the handles are cast as a drunken peasant perched on a tree branch, figural finials with drunken peasants sitting on barrels. each piece is monogrammed "S.A.B.S". Hallmarked English Silver (925), London, the sugar tongs year 1868 (n), no maker's mark; the kettle, teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug year 1888 (N), the cream jug and the waste bowl year 1900 (e), everything but the tongs and the stand bearing the Maker's mark GF for George Fox.

All parts are hallmarked appart from the tea kettle's stand (most probably made on commission to match the service, it has been acid tested and shows a 925 silver standard) all the other pieces are Hallmarked English Silver (925 Standard), London, the sugar tongs year 1868 (n), no maker's mark; the kettle, teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug year 1888 (N), the cream jug and the waste bowl year 1900 (e), everything but the tongs and the stand bearing the Maker's mark GF (George Fox, very important victorian silversmith).
