Aphrodite is an ancient Greek goddess associated with love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation. According to ancient Greek mythology, she was born from the bloody froth that foamed when Kronos castrated his father, the sky god Ouranos, with a sickle, and threw the dismembered organs into the sea. Aphrodite emerged from the waves near Paphos on the coast of Cyprus, this is beautiful depicted in 'The Birth of Venus by Botticelli c.1484-86.
