18th Century set of twelve Georgian Silver dinner plates, each of shaped-circular form with slanted gadrooned border, the reverse scratched with weight and numbered. Each border is engraved with two family crests, with lions and the Latin mottoes "Virtus Mille Scuta" and "Tria Juncta In Uno", both related to the Howard-Vyse family, possibly to the wedding between Howard Henry Howard-Vyse Esq. and Mable Diana Howard-Vyse. Hallmarked English silver (925), London, year 1782 (g), Maker's mark DSRS for Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp.

DESCRIPTION

Antique 18th Century rare and important set of twelve Georgian Solid Silver dinner plates, each of shaped-circular form with slanted gadrooned border, the reverse scratched with weight and numbered (not consecutively, the 12 plates were part of a larger set).

Each border is engraved with two family crests, with lions and the Latin mottoes "Virtus Mille Scuta" and "Tria Juncta In Uno", both related to the Howard-Vyse family, possibly to the wedding between Howard Henry Howard-Vyse Esq. and Mable Diana Howard-Vyse.

Each piece is fully Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1782 (g), Maker's mark DSRS (Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp - this mark is a cut-down version of RC/DS/RS, Richard Carter has been removed, mark used from 1780).

CONDITION

In Great Condition - no damage, just general wear.
