19th Century exceptionally Imperial Russian Silver-gilt and cloisonne' enamel throne salt, richly gilt and beautifully enamelled with multicolored scrolling foliage, flowers and geometric pan-Slavic motifs on stippled ground, the arched back with enamelled border in pan-Slavic style, supported on two waisted columns and centered by a circular reserve with red sunburst supported by three smaller columns, similar decoration to reverse with a larger stylized floral roundel.

Hallmarked Russian silver (88 for 916 standard), Moscow, Assayer's mark dated 1891, Maker's mark in Cyrillic for Pavel Ovchinnikov.

Antique 19th Century exceptionally rare Imperial Russian Solid Silver-gilt and cloisonne' enamel throne salt, richly gilt and beautifully enamelled with multicolored scrolling foliage, flowers and geometric pan-Slavic motifs on stippled ground, the arched back with enamelled border in pan-Slavic style, supported on two waisted columns and centered by a circular reserve with red sunburst supported by three smaller columns, similar decoration to reverse with a larger stylized floral roundel.

Such Novelty salts shaped as thrones are particularly rare and sough after.

Each part is Hallmarked Russian silver (88 for 916 standard, a particularly high silver purity for Russian silver), Moscow, Assayer's mark dated 1891, Maker's mark in Cyrillic for Pavel Ovchinnikov with the Imperial Warrant. Ovchinnikov is considered one of the best Russian silversmiths operating in the 19th Century, purveyor to Tsar Alexander III, King Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, King Christian IX of Denmark and others (for more information please follow this link).
