ANTIQUE 18thC GEORGIAN SOLID SILVER TWO HANDLED CUP & COVER, LONDON c.1764
18th Century Georgian Silver Rococo cup and cover, very large, heavy and decorative, the baluster body with chased shell decoration, leaf-capped scroll handles, cover surmounted by a bud finial, the interior is richly gilt, the gilding on the outside is slightly faded. The armorials are those of Croft quartering Warring impaling Cowper for Sir Arther Croft 3rd Bt of Croft Castle. Hallmarked English silver (925), London, year 1764 (I), Maker's mark I.P E.W for John Parker I and Edward Wakelin.

DESCRIPTION
Antique 18th Century Georgian Solid Silver Rococo cup and cover, very large, heavy and decorative, the baluster body with chased shell decoration, leaf-capped scroll handles, cover surmounted by a bud finial, the interior is richly gilt, the gilding on the outside is slightly faded.
Such large vases were the most fashionable interior design accessory of the mid-late 18th Century; the silver cup and cover in form of vase was at the top end of the market for such items. Due to the large size it can be used as a wine or champagne cooler.
The armorials are those of Croft quartering Warring impaling Cowper for Sir Arther Croft 3rd Bt of Croft Castle, who married on 1759 Elizabeth Charlotte, 2nd daughter and co-heir of Ashley-Cowper, great niece of the 1st Lord Cowper.
Both parts are fully Hallmarked English silver (925 Standard), London, year 1764 (I), Maker's mark I.P E.W (John Parker I and Edward Wakelin). Parker & Wakelin is one of the most important firms producing silverware in the 18th century.

In Great Condition - no damage, just general wear.
